A Way To Get Our Boys Out Of Iraq.....Shoot The Quran Full Of Bullet Holes
by BlackPearl inthe guy was sent out of iraq for shooting at the quran,....good idea!
"the u.s. military said sunday that it had disciplined the sniper and removed him from iraq after he was found to have used islam's holy book for target practice may 9 in a predominantly sunni area west of baghdad.
the book was found two days later by iraqis on a firing range in radwaniyah with 14 bullet holes in it and graffiti written on its pages, tribal leaders said.".

So they're there to shoot people, but aren't allowed to shoot books. Don't you just love religion?

Help me with research for video: "Evidence: The WT breaks up families"
by seattleniceguy ini'm interested in trying my hand at a youtube video.
i'd like to do a piece giving evidence that the wt actually breaks up families since, to my mind, this is one of their worst real offenses.
the outline will go something like this:.

Hi Brian, all the best with your video. I, too, very much enjoyed your other videos.
5. JWs are taught that people who leave the organization - for whatever reason - must be shunned.
Is that actually the case? I know some/many have that experience, but I'm also sure plenty walk away without being disfellowshipped (like me and others I know). Avoided as "close association" is an official teaching on this, yes - but shunned? Perhaps you could state that this is the experience many have?
I'm not justifying shunning or trying to excuse the disgusting behaviour of the cult in any way; just wondered about this point.

Could the WT be doing the "fade"?
by changeling incould they have learned something from lurking on jwd and decided to dismantle little by little?
i mean, no bookstudy, possibly less hours for regular pioneers and now the possibility of doing away with the co...sure sounds like a fade to me... are they hoping the r&f won't notice???.
changeling :).

It did cross my mind, but I would say no if pushed for an answer. Guess an organisation-wide "fading" could make certain people a lot of money? I don't see it happening anytime soon, though.

One Reason Why I Worship the God of the Bible
by snowbird inwhile this may be construed as a rebuttal to nvr's thread re: why i post about atheism, that is not my intent.. it is my intent, however, to show how i developed a belief in and love for the god of the bible.. my paternal grandfather, who died before i was born, was a baptist preacher, so you could say i cut my teeth on the bible.
i loved having it read to me, and once i learned how, reading it for myself.
i'm convinced that spirituality runs deep in my blood.. i've always had such a strong sense of right and wrong that injustices make me literally sick.

It is a quick and enjoyable (IMO) read that attempts to show how the Bible has been, for want of a better term, mauled to suit the purposes of many a group.
Yet, out of all that has transpired, the Light continues to shine in the darkness.
You can pick what you want and discard the rest - as I did with the article on confirmation bias.
So the answer to my question "What has that to do with confirmation bias and your choice to take the fact that we all die as evidence of God and the bible's inspiration?" is 'nothing'. I didn't pick what I wanted and discard the rest.
So back to the death-proves-God's-threat-was-real argument. Maybe the story in Genesis is just a people's attempt to explain the situation in which they find themselves, much like it explains why snakes don't have legs. (God cursed it for being naughty.)

Wow, indeed. May I also make a suggestion:
What has that to do with confirmation bias and your choice to take the fact that we all die as evidence of God and the bible's inspiration?

So who is more loving, atheists or peiople who worship the god of the Bible?
There are both loving Christians and loving atheists. But I agree that Yahweh was not very loving at all at times in his stories.

Are you suggesting that the fact that we all die, and that the God of the bible said this would happen, is a reason for faith in the said book and God?
I am stating that this is one of my reasons for such.Wow.
Suggested reading: Confirmation bias.
